Introduction
The Center for the Restoration of Wood and Textiles operates in conjunction with the Museum. The Center specialises in detailed restoration of objects dating from the Renassaince and Baroque periods. The specialists, trained in Italy and around the world, use the same techniques as those used during the Renassaince period. The Restoration Center, has taken upon itself to preserve objects of Jewish art, synagogues, and thirty-nine Torah Arks brought to Israel by Dr. U. Nahon, the founder of the Museum. The Center has restored Arks and provided them on permanent loan to various sites, including the synagogues in the Knesset (Israel Parliament), the Jerusalem City Hall, the Armored Corps Memorial Museum in Latrun, and the Jerusalem Mall.An Ark will soon be provided on permanent loan to the synagogue being built in the Presidents residence in Jerusalem. Delegations of restorers from the Museums Restoration Center tour the various sites around the country where items brought over by U.Nahon are located, and do their best to ensure that these unique assets are properly preserved. The Restoration Center works in close cooperation with the celebrated Palazzo Spinelli Institute in Florence. This cooperation includes consultation, exchange of students, and joint courses on the restoration of wooden items and ancient textiles. The work is coordinated by Mr. Giuliano Orvieto for the restoration of wooden objects and by Mrs. Olga Negnevitsky for the textile artifacts.
