| The Research Center for Italian Jewish Studies. Chairman of the Board: Adv. Benjamin Lazar Board's Coordinator: Prof. Sergio DellaPergola (The Hebrew University of Jerusalem) Chairman of the Academic Advisory Committee: Prof. Roberto Bonfil (The Hebrew University of Jerusalem) The Center for the Study of Italian Jews encourages research on the rich cultural aspects of Italian Jewry since antiquity to the present. It makes efforts to present to the broader public the unique contribution of Italian Jewry to Jewish and to general culture. The Center's library includes one of the finest collections available in Israel of books, periodicals, articles and documents on the history and traditions of Jewish communities in Italy. This collection was originally created by the well known Jewish historian Attilio Milano, and has been increased over time. The Center periodically organizes lectures and courses on topics related to Italian Jewry in the past and present, concerts of music by Italian Jewish composers, art exhibits by Italian Jewish artists, and scholarly conferences on relevant topics. The Center operates in collaboration with major universities and other scientific institutions in the field in Israel, Italy and other countries. It has helped to sponsor several major international conferences, some of whose proceedings have appeared in print. The Center is governed by its own Board of Governors in full coordination with the Directors of the Association of Italian Jews. The Academic Advisory Committee includes several leading experts on Italian Jewish history and community studies. (In view of a current reorganization, the Library is temporarily not open to the public) |
